Visit Columbia County for a

community. Experience the simple life first

the Amish community, including Amish owned and Amish-Heritage
businesses selling authentic Amish
goods.
The Surgeon's Quarters is the only remaining
building of the Historical Fort Winnebago, used
from 1828 to 1845. The Surgeon's Quarters
overlooks the site where Louis Joliet and Father
Jacques Marquette left the Fox River at the east
end of Wauona Trail in 1673.
The
Historic Indian Agency House, built in 1832, is
one of Wisconsin's earliest houses. It was
constructed by the US Government as a residence
for the Indian Agent to the Ho-Chunk (Winnebago).
The Agency House is on its original site above the
Portage Canal, located off Highway 33 east of
Portage on Agency House Road.
The
Columbus Carriage Classic is a two day event held
in June complete with graceful horses, authentic
and replica carriages, and drivers in period
attire!
The
Watermelon Festival is held on the 2nd week of
September. There is plenty of fun for everyone.
Speed eating contest, Seed Spitting, Tractor
Pulling, 3 vs 3 basketball tournament, and much,
much more make up the many events you can
participate in. Be sure to bring friends and
relatives to this festival because we actually
live up to our name "Partyville".
The American Legion Wisconsin State
Headquarters and Museum is located right in
Columbia County in the city of Portage.
The museum displays an interesting array of
statues, uniforms, plaques, medals, photos, and
documents portraying the history of Wisconsins
American Legion and its members.
